Accidents Sketch is a sketch that appears in "Live from the Grill-O-Mat," the eighteenth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

The linkman (John Cleese) tells two arguing workers in the background to quieten down and introduces the 'main course', prawn salad.

A butler (Graham Chapman) leads a man (Eric Idle) into a room, labelled Prawn Salad LTD, where he asks him to wait for Mr Thompson and leaves. The man picks up a magazine and as he is about to read it, a mirror behind him suddenly falls off the wall and breaks. The butler returns as the man explains that it fell off the wall. The butler politely disbelievingly tells him that he'll get a cloth. Just as he leaves, a cabinet tips over, breaking into two and the butler reenters, again not believing the man and skeptically leaves to get help.

A maid (Carol Cleveland) enters and upon inquiring how the mess happened, she hands him a dagger to hold while she cleans the mess up. As the man is fascinated, the maid tells him it's a Brazilian dagger, only to trip and falls onto it before falling to the ground, dead. The man looks upon her in shock just as the butler shows a man in a green apron (Terry Jones) into the room and he and the man look at each other nervously. As the man tries to explain to the man in the green apron, he slowly moved towards a window, only to end up falling out of it.

The butler then reenters again and shows a policeman (Michael Palin) the man. The officer comes to arrest the man when he suffers a heart attack and collapses. The butler reenters once more and swears revenge on the man before the ceiling falls on him. The man leaves the room quickly, and ornaments and furniture begin falling and exploding as the man runs out of the house. It cuts to an exterior shot of the house as it explodes and the man stands in the middle of the rubble, announcing "sorry!" The members of the Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things appear and head towards the school hall, walking past the man. They come across The Bishop (Palin), who is singing his lines, and ask for directions but he says he is in "next week's".
