Father-in-Law is a sketch that appears in "Hamlet," the forty-third episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

Robert and Carol (Terry Jones and Carol Cleveland) are kissing on Westminster Bridge. Carol asks Robert if he's OK with her father living with them, and he assures her he's fine. She then goes on to say he has trouble sleeping on his own, and will be sleeping in their bed. Robert doesn't want that, but Carol convinces him he wouldn't peek.

Later, Robert and Carol are sitting in bed with her father (Graham Chapman) who tells them to carry on, reading his book. They decide to go to sleep, turning off the lights. Numerous construction sounds are heard, and Carol's father tells them he's making the Cutty Sark, a model he's been working on in the dark for years. She turns the lights on and he's disappointed to see it's not very good. The opening titles then roll.
