It's a Man's Life in the Modern Army is a sketch that appears in "Owl-Stretching Time," the fourth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. It marks the first appearance of the Colonel.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

A colonel (Graham Chapman) interrupts a sketch for using the phrase, "IT'S A MAN'S LIFE IN THE CARDIFF ROOMS, LIBYA," which he believes to be stolen from the Army's slogan, "It's a man's life in the modern army."
