Kamikaze Scotsmen is a sketch that appears in "A Book at Bedtime," the thirty-eighth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

At Edinburgh Castle, bagpipers are being trained for British Army's first Kamikaze Regiment - the Queen's Own McKamikaze Highlanders. A voiceover (Michael Palin) narrates shots of Scotsmen throwing themselves off the tower to their deaths, and some interviewee Scotsmen say the reason they kill themselves is for the money and the water skiing.

A captain (John Cleese) catches up with his RSM (Terry Jones) who is training the young Scotsmen in suicide, proudly sending each one off to make the jump. The captain explains he needs some men for his mission, but the RSM doesn't stop the training before one man is left. MacDonald (Graham Chapman), the last Scotman remaining, is keen to jump off, thanks to the training from Mr Yashimoto. The captain suggests they get someone to advise them, and it cuts to Kami-Kaze Advice Centre, where a business man (Palin) enters. The receptionist points him to a door, and he opens it to reveal a cloudy sky, and jumps.
