Mr Bartlett is a court barrister. For a case against Harold Larch for a parking offence, Bartlett called various witnesses to speak, including Mrs Fiona Lewis, the late Arthur Aldridge, and Ron Higgins, professional Cardinal Richelieu impersonator. After Inspector Dim of Scotland Yard exposes Higgins and breaks into song, Bartlett sings his own song, indicating that if he were not a barrister, he would be an engine driver. Nobody is amused by his song and a knight hits him in the head with a chicken. He first appeared in the sketch Court Scene with Cardinal Richelieu.
Series 4[]
In Series 4, John Cleese left the show and the character had to be replaced for the first episode. He was eventually replaced by Peter Brett and was put in the sketches Montgolfier Brothers, Louis XIV and George III. Instead of being a court barrister, he was an interrupter similar to Mr Badger. In the sketches he would come to Joseph and Jacques' house and poke his head through the door, notifying them of his presence.
