Queen Victoria Handicap is a sketch that appears in "Hamlet," the forty-third episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

A commentator Peter (Eric Idle) commentates a race between Queen Victorias as they run around the racetrack and jump over hedges.

The 'A Room in Polonius's House' presenter Frank Bough (Michael Palin), dressed as Queen Victoria, thanks Peter for his commentary and announces that Real Madrid striker Miguel Otana was sent off for breaking wind in the 43rd minute. He hands over to Brian Clough (Idle), also dressed as Queen Victoria, who shares his opinion over footage of the football match. The presenter then turns to Jimmy Hill, also dressed as Queen Victoria, who reports on the ridiculous reasons that referees send players off for. The presenter then turns to Hamlet (Terry Jones) and starts talking about the girl on the bed with her legs up against the mantelpiece before a nurse (Carol Cleveland) ushers him out.

A title card 'Act Five - A Ham In The Castle' is shown on screen, and a production of Hamlet is performed by a cast of Queen Victorias. They gather for the final applause as the credits roll.

After, a ragged man (Palin) emerges from an explosion in an empty field and says "And then..."
