The Roman Jailer or simply Jailer (played by Terry Gilliam) is a recurring character in Monty Python's Life of Brian. He was a humpbacked deaf man who worked for the Roman Empire and whose job was jailing criminals. He first appeared when Brian was put in jail and an old man in chains starting talking to him, until the Jailer yelled at him to quiet down. The last scene he appeared in was when Nisus Wettus asks him how many people have gone to the crosses to be crucified, until The Jailer Assistant helps out Nisus but has a stutter so he talking to him along the lines of: "Y-you'll have to spe-spe-spe-sp-sp-speak up sir he's-de's-he's-da-de-DEAF poe sir. I'll make it 90-ff-90-ffff-96 sir. NNNNNNNO sir! Nuh No... he's bbbb-bastard sir. CCC-NNN-GG-KK-Crucifixion forms sir! No he's NNNNUH-NNUH-Nasty sir. D-Don't worry about H-Him sir, HEEE-DUH-HE'S-DUH-DUH-DEAF and MMM-MAD, sir. B-Bloody Pilot Pet, sir."
