Silly Olympics is a sketch from Episode 1 of Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus.

Synopsis[]

At Munich, the 27th Silly Olympics is being held.

First is the 100 metres for men with no sense of direction. The starter pistol is fired and the runners run off in all different directions.

Next is the 5000 metres for the deaf. The starter pistol is fired and the runners stand still.

Next is the 2000 metres breaststroke for non-swimmers. The starter pistol is fired and the non-swimmers fall into the water. The commentator informs us that we'll be bought back there when the corpses are fished out.

Next is the marathon for incontinents. The starter pistol is fired and the runners rush into the bathroom.

A second start for the 5000 metres for the deaf. The starter pistol is repeatedly fired but the runners still stand still. The starter throws the pistol on the ground.

The German reverse tower jumpers are next. A woman jumps up into a castle (reverse shot of dummy falling out of castle window).

Next is the 3000 metres for men who think they're chickens. It is the third day and the commentator expects a result in five weeks. The runners frail about like chickens.

Back at the deaf 5000 metres, the starter has tried machine guns and cannons but can't move the runners. He tries holding up a sign to get them started. His plan works, except he gets run over by the runners.

Meanwhile, the incontinents are first led by Ian McKellan (Michael Palin) but he goes to revive himself in the bushes. The other runners do the same.

Finally is the 15000 metres for people and their mothers. The runners are shown guiding their mothers. A hammer lands on the race track. It apparently came from the Throwing the Hammer at America event.

Another hammer is thrown into a cowboy town.
