Spot the Loony is a sketch that appears in "A Book at Bedtime," the thirty-eighth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

The presenter of 'Spot the Looney' (Eric Idle) introduces a panel of guest loonies to 'Spot the Loony'. The first film is of mountaineering, and the loony makes a quick appearance, with Mrs Nesbitt in York calling in soonest.

In the second round, a picture of a loony is mixed up in pictures of well-known people. Someone calls in at the picture of Anthony Barber, but the presenter requests no one buzz in until all the pictures have been shown. A computer error mixes up the answer as the picture of Katie Boyle.

In the third round, the viewers must spot to loony in a film clip of the story 'Ivanhoe'. The clip is of a bunch of loonies prancing around a butcher's shop. The presenter congratulates three viewers on spotting the loony, the writer Walter Scott. Walter Scott (Graham Chapman) is offended, saying it sounds more like a Dickens work. Dickens (Terry Jones) is heavily offended.
