Strangers in the Night is a sketch that appears in "Untitled," the tenth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

Vera Jackson (Terry Jones) and her husband (Michael Palin) sleep as Maurice Zatapathique (Eric Idle) enters through the window, wishing to see Vera. The husband wakes, asking what he heard and Vera dismisses it, and he sleeps. Roger Thompson (John Cleese) enters, jealous of Vera and Maurice. She introduces them to each other. The husband wakes again, but it again easily put back to sleep. As Maurice and Roger profess their love for Vera, Ken Biggles (Graham Chapman) and Algy Braithwaite (Barry Cryer) enter, both also professing their love for her.

The husband wakes again, and once more goes back to sleep right before he is awakened by the Mexican band, the Herman Rodrigues Four (Ian Davidson), who are also looking for Vera and he points them in her direction. The band begin playing and the husband wakes again, this time going for a tinkle, despite Vera's protests that the sketch is not over yet. A man dressed as an Aztec god appears, but Vera says that he is not much use since her husband left the sketch.

The husband meets with a woman in the lavatory, telling her that he believes his wife is suspecting that he is having an affair.
