Take Your Pick (or Spot the Braincell) is a sketch that appears in "The Attila the Hun Show," the twentieth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

On a 'Take Your Pick'-style set, a jolly host (John Cleese) welcomes on the next contender, a moody old lady (Terry Jones) who doesn't respond to his questions. The prize she wants is "the blow on the head". He proceeds to ask her a complicated question about Cartesian dualism. She answers correctly. He then asks her what penguins eat, and at one point she thinks they eat other penguins and she guesses a load of posh expensive dishes. He gives her a clue, mimes swimming, and she first says Brian Close, followed by absent guesses. The presenter obviously tries to hide his annoyance.

He decides to continue through the game, and asks her if she still wants the blow on the head and she confirms. He then offers her a poke in the eye, a punch in the throat, a kick in the knee cap and more violent offers. After consulting with the audience, the lady sticks with the blow on the head, and the presenter pulls out a large mallet, whacking her to the ground.

The sketch already appeared in John Cleese's "How to Irritate People" in a slightly different version.
