The Epsom Furniture Race is a sketch that appears in "The Attila the Hun Show," the twentieth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

At Epsom, a commentator (Eric Idle) describes a race at a derby racetrack, with competitors that are pieces of furniture moving with stop-animation. The finishing positions are: wash basin, WC pedestal, sofa, hat stand, standard lamp and Joanna Southcott's box.

A bishop (Michael Palin) and two vicars (Ian Davidson and Terry Gilliam) scream at the racecourse "Open the box!"
