The First Underwater Production of Measure for Measure is a sketch that appears in "How to Recognise Different Parts of the Body," the twenty-second episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Synopsis[]
The presenter (John Cleese), now sitting in the middle of the sea, tells the audience how theatrical directors use the sea for dramatic value. He says that somewhere in this bay is the first production of Measure for Measure.
The camera moves over to the sea, where gargling Shakespearean dialogue can be heard. Two actors come up to the surface for air, inhale, and carry on.
The presenter, who is standing in sea level up to his chest, tells the audience that Hello Dolly! is also doing well. The camera moves over to a buoy with a poster advertising the show, and men gargling singing "Hello, Dolly", and on the oyster beds, Formula Two car racing.
