A BBC 1 logo appears and the voiceover (Michael Palin) and announces it is "5 past 9 and nearly time for 6 past nine". On BBC 2 it'll be 6 1/2 minutes past 9 and later on it will be 10 o'clock, and at 10:30, BBC 1 will be joining BBC 2 in time for 10:33. He reminds the audience that tomorrow it'll be 9:20.

Another voiceover (Terry Jones) says "you're a loony" and the voiceover explains he gets so bored. The opening credits roll and the BBC continuity man is sitting in a blacksmith's.

A man (Jones) appears on screen and complains about his tooth hurting, but is shooed away by a voice. It cuts to a man in a bowler hat (Graham Chapman) who announces he is not sorry to interrupt and talks about his annual prize-giving that is going on at this very moment.
