There's Been a Murder is a sketch that appears in "How to Recognise Different Parts of the Body," the twenty-second episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

A family sit in their country house and Inspector Muffin (Michael Palin) enters and informs them there's been a murder. The mother (Carol Cleveland) repeats him in confusion and he corrects himself, saying it was a word beginning with b. The son (Graham Chapman) suggests Birmingham and the father (John Cleese) suggests Burnley, and Muffin agrees. The son then corrects him, saying "burglary" and Muffin agrees and carries on, saying there's been a burglary in Barclay's Bank.

The son asks if there's any evidence as to who did it and Muffin berates him on his posh language before getting confused on whether it was a burglary or a murder. He begins to explain what to do in one of these events but loses track and stops dazedly before coming back to his senses. The father suggests he call the police and Muffin agrees.

The mother suggests she make everyone a cup of tea and Muffin hostilely replies "make what you like, Boskovitch. It won't help you in court." The family look at him confusedly and Muffin tells them he's getting muddled with two cases. A siren is heard and a policeman followed by a squad enter.
