Thripshaw's Disease is a sketch that appears in "E. Henry Thripshaw's Disease," the thirty-sixth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Synopsis[]
Some clips of an epic Hollywood-style film play, and an interviewer (Graham Chapman), with frequent pauses (as if he's reading from a slow teleprompter), introduces the author of the film clip, Dr E. Henry Thripshaw (John Cleese). Thripshaw says he feels the director missed the whole point of his disease. He also explains he's working on a new disease to be turned into a musical and a remake for his first disease.
A new film clip is played, the same but with the characters bursting into Thripshaw's surgery. A man hiding in a barrel (Michael Palin) announces the next sketch follows after some silly noises, as the screen cuts to black and silly noises are heard.
Trivia[]
- Both this sketch and The Man Who Says Words in the Wrong Order were originally part of Series 3, Episode 13. However, due to the severe censorship on Series 3, Episode 10 (3 sketches and most of Terry Gilliam's animation was cut), both sketches were moved to that show. The "Silly Noises" section was originally part of the Wee-Wee Wine Tasting sketch.
