Timmy Williams Interview is a sketch that appears in "It's a Living," the nineteenth episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Synopsis[]

Nigel Watt (Terry Jones) sits at a restaurant table and is greeted by Timmy Williams (Eric Idle), an interviewer obviously based on David Frost. Timmy has no concern for Nigel's own life and interrupts him to greet other numerous people. He is inconsiderate to the fact Nigel's wife just died.

Nigel wants to talk to Timmy alone but Timmy invites a reporter, Peter (who is later referred to as Tony) (Graham Chapman) to sit with them, as he's doing an article on Timmy. Nigel objects but Timmy invites another Peter (John Cleese) to sit with them as he's writing a book on Timmy.

He prompts Nigel to carry on but a photographer, Bob (Terry Gilliam) jumps around the table snapping pictures of the meeting. Nigel starts to talk but a waiter, Mario, (Michael Palin) comes up to Timmy and asks for his autograph, but a film production team asks Mario to come in again as they're getting bad sound. Timmy explains it's a German TV studio doing a prize-winning documentary on him. Timmy waits miserably until the producer calls 'action!' and he warmly presents Mario with the autograph and a banknote to give to his daughter.

Then, with faked interest, Timmy tells Nigel to carry on. Nigel pours his problems out to him, his deceased wife, three children, no job and no money at all. He asks Timmy for help, but Timmy was on the phone to America and says goodbye to Nigel. Suddenly there is a loud bang and Nigel has committed suicide, but Timmy asks if the sound was OK on that. He waves goodbye to the audience and the text 'TIMMY WILLIAMS COFFEE TIME' appears on screen, with Timmy waving goodbye to the set audience.
